Ross graduated from University of California, Santa Cruz in 2014 where he majored in environmental studies and philosophy. After he graduated, his interests shifted and he began a career in the biotechnology industry where he worked at a company that supports drug development and discovery. There, he focused primarily on reagent production and tissue culture scale-up and troubleshooting. While in the El-Shamayleh lab (2022–23), Ross was as a molecular technician focused on viral vector production.
