Chuyi is a visual neuroscientist with expertise in studying thalamocortical circuits. She received a PhD in Behavioral Neuroscience from the University of Connecticut, working in the lab of Prof. Harvey Swadlow. Her PhD research focused on early stages of visual processing in the rabbit and delineating the functional role of specific cortical cell types and laminae in vision. Chuyi is the recipient of the Zuckerman Institute’s Alan Kanzer Postdoctoral Fellowship. During her time in the El-Shamayleh lab (2024–2025), she used a combination of electrophysiological and optogenetic approaches to investigate visual cortical circuits in primates.
